Model Railway Layout ( OLD OAK BRIDGE )

( Original Layout Plans Opposite )

This was the original build that is now rebuilt in to the new layout now known as 'OLD OAK BRIDGE DEPOT'.

The build started in 2016 with an idea of a manageable sized model railway at roughly a shoulder height, giving work space below for model making and future builds. The vision build was to be set around London's underground and its long gone days of Diesel Depots within the surrounding areas of London,

This layout was based on my years of growing up with my family and in particular very fond memories of a dear friend who we as kids shared the same passion of model railways, So this layout was built that become a real memory palace with many stories once shared by so many.

The layout is named Old Oak Bridge, due to its London theme paying particular attention to the Old Oak Common Depot and its surrounding areas of Acton.

The original Old Oak Bridge layout is sadly now dismantled but has entered a new design concept with the same Iconic dioramas that once featured.

The layout at the time had a foot print of 12 foot by 8 foot as the layout plan above right, some historic structures and places that could of been found around certain parts of London where included in the model build.

Keeping in mind this is a model railway, I have tried to capture the nostalgia of the 1980's upwards to fall in line with the operations from the early days of British Rail ( BR ) & Network SouthEast ( NSE ).

A selection of rolling stock and locomotives have been carefully selected for the layout to represent that classic period between of the 1980's to late 1990's.

Looking forward, this layout has now been completely re-modernised on two levels in the same 80's /90's feel of old London with a twist to bring the layout to life with a better perspective of tunnels and girder bridges that was sadly missing from the first build.

A taste of cheekytek's modelling

Photo Collection

This photo selection portrays some of the work I have achieved through my time with railway modeling, hopefully some of these images will inspire ideas showing what can be achieved from nothing more than a few sheets of plastic, glue and a few accessories items.

My Build Concept.

Please understand I am no master modeller and I have made many mistakes which has made my remodelling a lot better and its really good to make mistakes as it will make you better in anything you do.. ( happy mistakes as I call them )

I would rather rectify a mistake, than spend hours upon hours just looking at a plan not knowing where to start.

My best advice, is to really research and plan your project paying particular attention to the era you're working with and how things looked at that time.
